Frog Lane 2009

2009 marked the 60th anniversary of the closure of the pit at Frog Lane, and the South Gloucestershire Mines Research Group, Yate & District Heritage Centre and local community and other heritage groups joined forces for "Frog Lane 1949-2009" to mark the closure of Frog Lane Colliery, the last major coal mining concern in the Yate/Coalpit Heath area.

Frog Lane Colliery

For Frog Lane 1949-2009 a book, exhibition, DVD and numerous mining events and activities were organised.

Our first event was on the weekend of 2nd/3rd May, when our exhibition launched to the public at the Miners Institute (the Coalpit Heath Village Hall) at 7:30pm on the Saturday. There was lots of new material - photos that have not been seen in recent years, unique mining artefacts, a new book. The event was a great success, with lots of people coming from the village and much further afield.

Since then the exhibiton has been at The Yate Heritage Centre and Thornbury Museum.

Admission is FREE to all events.

Help !

We need YOUR help. We need your help to gather as much local information together as possible, so if you have any old village or mining related artifacts, articles, maps, pictures, cards or anything please let the webmaster know. Also, if you (or a relative) has any knowledge of the mines or area during the mining, we are doing an Oral History project to record any knowledge before it is lost. We would love to interview you. Please contact us now or phone Andy on 01454 882867. So do YOU know someone who worked there? Or has photos or records of a family member who worked there? We have already been loaned a massive collection of 200 photos many of which we had not seen before. These will (with permission) be scanned and returned. Through our contacts, we can also advise on who to talk to for long-term storage and preservation of artefacts.

Frog Lane 2009 is over now, but you might still catch the exhibition somewhere, or come down to our Oldwood Open days and see it and more then! Don't forget to have a look at the program of events organised by SGMRG. Everyone is welcome.

Thanks
