Lectures
SGMRG are often asked to do presentations to community groups. We have a number of members willing to do presentations and each has their own interests and fields of expertise. Thus our range of mining related presentations is quite large and can be area or topic based. It includes:
- Cromhall
- Coalpit Heath
- Kingswood
- Welsh pits of the 1970's
- Coal mines of South Gloucestershire
- Development of the Newcomen Engine
- etc
These presentations have been given to a wide variety of groups including:
- Thornbury Local History Society
- Alveston Local History Society
- NAMHO
- Local clubs and groups etc...
The list of topics is always growing and can possibly be extended; for example if you have a specific site or subject in mind, we may be able to look up our extensive library of information and create new presentation.
If you would like to get a closer look at a real coal mine, then come along to Oldwood Pit, which we open once a year to the pubic - see our events schedule. If you would like to get involved in archaeology, then join the SGMRG - we normally meet once or twice a month to dig somewhere.
If you would like to talk to us about a presentation, please contact the Secretary. We also have a wide variety of display boards and artefacts to display as part of a lecture.
